Nowadays we use a lot of electronic devices, such iphones, computers, tablets, ebooks etc. Present problem with virus does not make our life easy . We literally forced to work online, spending 10 and more hours in front of the computer. Obviously it has negative impact on our eyes. There are many problems can occur with eyes and the most annoying one so called presbyopia or accommodation disturbance. When suddenly you cant see small text or it is blurry or double vision when you move your head. This due to eye strain and permanent fixation to electronic device or positional. The condition is precursor to myopia. So there are good news that it can be reversible if caught in right moment. The first and the most efficient and impossible in our life is to decrease usage of electronic devices. Well. Lets be honest. It is our life now and even this blog is electronic. So. It is still needs to be kept in mind.
Second and the most important eye exercises since eyes got muscles too. Actually many muscles and all these muscles must work, so we shall do gymnastic for eyes too every day at least once a day. To stipulate this habit you should put it together with teeth cleaning . You do it every day all your life. So do gymnastics for eyes then too. And avoid eye glasses. Since eye glasses are not correcting anything. I consider eye glasses same as crutches. So may be to use crutches in case of emergency possible temporarily, but not all your life. And gymnastic definitely helps. I am doing these simple exercises every day many years and I can say its are amazing and it takes just few minutes.
Blink many times fast some 2-3 seconds.
Squeeze your eyes for 2 sec for 5-7 times and then blink again 2 sec
Move your eyes (only eyes not head), up and down -2 times.
Blink 2 seconds
Move your eyes to sides (right and left)- 2 times
Blink 2 seconds
Move your eyes on diagonals left lower corner to right upper corner -2 times
Blink 2 seconds
Move your eyes on diagonals right lower corner to left upper corner -2 times
Blink 2 seconds
Draw with eyes a square - 2 times on right and 2 times on left with blinking in between
Rub your palms on each other until they got hot and put it in a way as a roof on your nose to cover fully both eyes. Close your eyes and keep them closed some seconds, thinking about something pleasant. After do not take off hands. Start to blink under the palms with eyes and continue to move your eyes drawing the clock. 12-3-6-9 2 times, blink and then 12-9-6-3 blink. Close your eyes ,take off the hands, blink again.
Now you can see the world in more bright and precise way:)
This set you ought to do at least once a day if you do not have any problem. If you do have problems then do it twice and even 3 times a day.
Blinking 2-3 sec itself and simple palming you can do whenever you need during the class of working pause.
The third step is to support your eyes also with healthy food and supplements.
There are many but here I will provide the most efficient and give immediate result. These I literally tested on myself and my patients. So this complex significantly improves vision acuity.
Blueberry or Vaccinium myrtillus. Fresh 100 gr per day. Or in the supplements 300 mg daily with anthocyanins not less then 25%-80 mg. Blueberry is old and good berry very famous for vision protection and specifically vision acuity. Exists also a relative of blueberry calls Bilberry or Bog blueberry or Vaccinium uliginosum extract 2000 mg a day for 4 weeks which relieves computer asthenopia or blurred vision after long usage of electronic devices.
Black goji or Lycium ruthenicum Murr. Fresh 5 gr or dry in a tea infusion once daily. Red goji are different and have less effect in vision protection, so it must be exactly black ones. Lycium ruthenicum Murr. contains abundant procyanidin, there is stronger anti-oxidation function, can effectively alleviate the infringement of radical pair eye lens, can protect eyes cell and retina, promotes rhodopsin cell regeneration (basically lack of rhodopsin causes us blindness), improves visual acuity, the speed of the vision restoration in quickening dark after visual accommodation ability and flash of light, promotes ocular blood circulation and it is anti-strain. I consider black goji as a gift from gods. Personally I experienced immediate improvement of vision acuity just after 1 cup of this tea
Sea buckthorn or Fructus Hippophae. Fresh 100 gr per day. Or in the supplements 900 mg daily. In acute cases 50 mg/kg.
Grape seed or Semen Vitis viniferae . In an oil for salad -100 gr daily . Or in the supplements 500 mg of Semen Vitis viniferae extract once daily.
Green tea or Camellia sinensis - 5 gr in a tea infusion or in supplements 300 mg once daily.
Carrots or Daucus carrota radix - one piece a day fresh or in supplements 1-1.5 gr once a day daily.
Eye bright extract or Euphrasia officinalis- 5 gr in a tea infusion once a day at the bedtime.
Lutein and zeaxanthin. Can be found in many foods. Particularly peppers,avocado (1- avocado= 0.5 mg of lutein )spinach and egg yolks. Can be taken in the supplements 20mg lutein and 2.5 mg zeaxanthin daily. Also 2tb spoons of avocado oil per day which is done circa 20 avocados for 250 ml oil .
Taurine (L-Taurine essential amino acid) 1000 mg twice a day as a supplement or can be found in beef, turkey, scallops, tilapia, seaweed.
Astaxanthine 6 mg twice a day which is derivate from microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis - improves significantly vision acuity and protects against retinopathy, cataract and loss of vision and has pleasant bonus as anti viral agent- in particular against herpes family and also prevents stomatitis or so called aphtae.
Rosemarin (yep- old spice for potatoe and meat ) together with our old amigo Zn improves night vision and prevents from retinal loss. Dosage 400 mg every 12 hrs until vision improvement and then for support 200 mg per 24 hrs. In Romania the best version is found in farmacia tei under brand DVR Pharm Rozmarin extract. Zn you can take separately, but rosemary works even without zinc.
Substances above you can use life-long.
It is also important to take to consideration essential vitamins. Particularly Vitamin B1, B12 and B2. Lack of thiamine, cyanocobalamin and riboflavin usually causes optic neuropathy. For prophylactic and therapy you can take complex of all B vitamins not longer than 14 days. Or separately Vitamin B1 100 mg once a day for 14 days and Vitamin B2 25 mg once a day for 14 days. Vitamin B12 - 1 mg once a day for 14 days. Vitamin D 2000 ME once a day if there is laboratory proven deficit, otherwise in the winter periods. Vitamin A not more than 5000 IU and not longer than 14 days if there is a deficit in blood, otherwise it will be enough to have carrots intake or Beta-carotene 15 mg a day (pro-vitamin A). Vitamin C 500 mg once a day for 14 days.
For those who has significant eye sight loss in addition to above-mentioned, it is strongly recommended to see Ophthalmologist/ Geneticist and consider Idebenone 180 or 270 mg per day for at least 6 months. And its combination with vitamins B2 (100 mg) and B12 (1.25 mg) for 3-5 months.
Also Citicoline 1000 mg per day at least 9 months prevents glaucoma and optic neuropathy. Improvement can be noticed already within 6 first weeks.
